Social networking is a great place to meet others if you’re doing it right. I “met” the creative ladies behind Stylishly Sweet Events, Danae and Monica during “Alt chat” on Twitter and it’s been a pleasure getting to know them and following their adventures in all things design and event planning.
Name of your business? Who is/are the mastermind(s) behind your business?
Stylishly Sweet Events–Danae & Monica are the masterminds behind SSE. We met at our day jobs in the tech world and realized we both had a love for style and events. We decided to go into business together, and the rest is history.
How did you start your company?
After much procrastination (because we wanted it to be perfect) we finally decided to just get it going! We began with our blog and then created a website from there. Now we are working on an online boutique, vintage rentals a brand new website and a really amazing concept we think is fun and innovative.
What made you go into Wedding & Event planning?
We really love planning and organizing events. The details, organization, and special projects are all wonderful parts of the process. We enjoy taking a concept and turning it into something you can see, enjoy, feel, etc. Why not take what you love to do, and do it with passion, every day? We also love to see that smile on our client’s face at the end of the night.
What’re one (of many) things do you want to accomplish (business or career and personal)?
Since we’re both currently working other day jobs, we’d like to make SSE a full-time business. We’d love to have a studio we can both work out of and host client visits and a warehouse to store our rentals, boutique inventory, and other event details.
Danae:
I just got married last year and we’re already looking forward to the family planning process and traveling all over the world together!
What’s one mistake you’ve learned from?
One (of many) mistakes I’ve learned from is comparing myself to others. We all say “don’t do it” but it’s really hard not to compare yourself to those in your industry who look super successful. You start thinking, “What am I doing wrong? Why am I not as successful as they are?” Instead of looking at others and making comparisons, remember that you are truly unique and have something to offer that no one else in the world has. It’s good to know those in your industry, but focus on what you can bring to the table instead of what everyone else is doing. You’ll find success will come if you are true to who YOU are.
What’s the best advice you’ve gotten (business or personal)?
Personal: Simple but true, “Don’t sweat the small stuff.”
Business: Karen Lamb said, “ A year from now you will wish you started today” That has really resonated with me.

What’s one food you can eat for the rest of your life?
Danae:
Spaghetti or anything Italian really
Monica:
Potatoes. Because I love fries! Plus you can have them mashed, baked, twice baked.. there are so many possibilities!
You have to choose: living forever in sub-zero degree temperatures or blistering hot conditions (proper attire included).
Danae:
Blistering hot. I love the dewy skin that heat creates and I HATE being cold. Like, serious hate.
Monica:
Blistering Hot. I’m a born and raised California girl. I do not understand how others live where it snows 😉 or that they chose to. I also HATE the cold. I would choose tropical over a winter wonderland every single time.
Routine you have to complete every day/week (the more embarrassing the better)
Danae:
I love routine. Here is my bedtime routine that I do every night. Yes, it’s a lot of work to go to bed for me.
*Take out contacts
*Wash and moisturize the face
*Floss and brush teeth, put in retainer 😉
*Put on PJ’s
*Swipe on lip balm
*Put lotion on my hands
*Take a melatonin
*Read
*Pass out while reading
Monica:
I’m a fly by the seat of my pants kinda girl. I don’t have a routine, I do what needs to be done and change my mind often. The only routine I can think of is I must have coffee once I get to work first thing, however, I don’t drink coffee on the weekends when I’m home? 😉
Current song you’re listening to?
Danae:
Cardiac Arrest by Bad Suns
Monica:
Merry Go Round by Kasey Musgraves
