There’s something about abandoning a blog that brings clarity.
An unexpected break occurred when things got busy with life and work. Because I’m not one to push out a pointless post, a break happened.
Honestly? I was stuck.
What could I post about without sounding fake or phony?
How do I help you without sounding like I’m trying to sell you something in every single post?
Call me crazy, but I want to offer solutions without attaching a price tag to everything.
When I decided to recycle old content for a while, I didn’t feel bad about it. Hey, it gave the opportunity to repurpose old content while deciding what was next.
Truth? It was a little bit difficult trying to do that.
Sometimes becoming un-stuck can take days or weeks. Sometimes it’s months. Does it mean you lost your passion? Sure. That happens…and it’s OK.
Losing your passion doesn’t mean you failed, it means you’re growing.
If you’re finding yourself in the same position, here’s what you can do:
1. Take a break. Not blogging helped me come up with ideas I’m excited to write about. Now I have a clearer idea of how and what I want to blog about. Success.
2. Write down your ideas. I use apps like, “Notes” and “Evernote” from time to time, but I also loved using a good ole pen and paper. It never goes out of style.
3. Observe. Surf your timelines, pay attention to your Facebook groups, and see if anything pops out at you. Can you offer any organic support to what people are talking about?
4. Solve your frustrations with solutions. It’s not a secret I’m 120 percent against Comic Sans because “it’s a fun font.” I can stay frustrated, or realize people don’t know alternatives to the horrific font. Less complaining, more problem-solving.
5. Walk away. Different than taking a break, walking away, for me, means not thinking about it at all. Let it go, and don’t feel the need to do 1-4. This might be temporary, this might be permanent. You may pick up from where you left off, change directions, or close the door altogether. Whatever you decide to do, make sure it’s right for you and not because you want to fit in.
“C, how does walking away get you “un-stuck?”
When you walk away, you’re free of what was keeping you a prisoner.
I’m going to repeat this: if you decide to walk away, close the door, and move on, it does not mean you failed. Outgrowing your passion means you are growing in yourself. That is healthy and normal. Embrace it.
Feeling stuck? It’s a part of growth. Ride it out and know it will end sooner or later. And PS. You’re not alone.
